harvesting 2020Improved weather conditions in recent days were gladly welcomed by tillage farmers around the country. Storm Francis and Storm Ellen brought a lot of heavy rain and wind which has wreaked havoc on the harvest so far, but combines have been rolling this week. The majority of farmers are cutting the remaining winter wheat crops and some have started to harvest spring barley with spring wheat harvest to commence shortly. With a high pressure building it is hopeful that all crops will be saved in the coming weeks.

It has been a difficult year for winter crops along with spring crops due to the wet weather at sowing last year and the drought in the spring of 2020; this has resulted in a drop in yields of both winter and spring crops. The drought has impacted grain and straw yields.
