seedingIn sharp contrast to winter cereal planting from 2019 a large area of ground has been sown so far this year, Tillage farmers across the country are taking every opportunity to get winter cereals into the ground.

With colder/ wetter weather in the coming weeks and reduced establishment rates of winter cereals, farmers need to address seeding rates according to the TGW of the crop and the variety. With establishment rates of winter cereal crops reduced to 70% from the third week of October farmers must up seeding rates according to TGW and the required plants per m2 for the time of year. If target yields are to be achieved then calculating the correct seeding rates and sowing into good soil conditions is vital, ‘well sown is half grown’.
